Drama Eisteddfod Preview
Friday 9th, we will begin our assembly at 2pm. We will watch the students perform their pieces, who are entered into the Port Macquarie Speech and Drama Eisteddfod. All are welcome!
What a lovely week in our school! It was busy, as usual, but the smiles on the students' faces makes all the difference when parents and teachers are working hard to make things great!
On Wednesday, there was so much excitement in the hall as the Backflips for Bullying team travelled all the way from Sydney to entertain and also educate us about Bullying. They taught us some key messages including what bullying is and is not, how to seek help and how to help others. Have a look at the excitement in the students faces.

While the Backflips show was on, our STEM-MAD Team were glued to the computer watching the National STEM MAD awards, with fingers and toes crossed. We were ecstatic when we heard that the team had success in two categories.
1st: Best Engineered Product
2nd: Best Application of Maths in Context
We wish Adam, Roman and Jack all the best as they travel to Melbourne for 3 days to present their design. A massive thank you to Mrs Jackson for all your hard work and to all our Science Teachers. Our school has a reputation of doing amazing things in STEM thanks to our dedicated teachers.

On Thusday our year 5 & 6 students travelled to Laurieton Oval to take part in the Soccer and Netball Gala Day. The day was fantastic with the students showing great sportsmanship. Thank you to the parents who came down to set up early, kept scores and supported the running of the day.
A massive thank you also goes to our parents and friends who organised, cooked and ran a major fundraiser throughout the day by running the gala day canteen. This was a huge community effort and we were very proud to be able to deliver such a variety from our families.

On Friday we welcomed a huge contigent of dads, pops and father figures for our Father’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy. Thank you to all the staff for putting on a great morning for our dads. We remembered all our dads, including those who couldn’t make it, those who are far away and those who are no longer with us. Father’s Day can be tough for lots of reasons, but it is also a day to celebrate the people in our lives that have helped make us the strong, loving and resilient people we are.
If you missed the assembly, this is the video all the students made:

Thank you again to our tireless P&F who ran the Father’s Day Stall for our students. We hope our dads are spoiled.
And if you think that was busy, the next two weeks will be extra hectic. For our younger students and families who have never experienced the productions that St Joey’s Laurieton puts on, you will be impressed with what a little school, like ours, can do. Make sure there is plenty of early nights to keep those energy levels up.
Never Ever Land whole school production final rehearsal week is coming up and classes and groups are working hard perfecting their dance routines and acting roles. Please make sure you know what you need to get for your child’s costume and make sure you have purchased your tickets to see at least one of the shows. The 5:30 show will sell out quickly. Tickets are now unlimited to purchase for all your friends and family. Ticket numbers are strictly capped. In the many years we have run productions, we rarely have a seat left at the Thursday shows so get in quick. We are offering a special lucky door prize for anyone who has purchased tickets before next Wednesday, 7th September. Those families will go in the draw to win four Movie tickets to our local Plaza Cinema!
Please promote our show so we can sell our tickets to meet costs, and have a full audience for our students to perform for. This is going to be one of our biggest and best shows yet and we are so excited to perform for you in week 9! For more information about the performances and arrangements for students, please refer to the article below newsletter.

Dear Parents,
Please see below for important information regarding the upcoming Dance Eisteddfod.
Miss Ebert & Mrs Toole
Well done to the students who compiled this great podcast this week!
Next Sunday, 11th September, some of our students will celebrate the Sacrament of First Eucharist. The students have been preparing for this Sacrament with Mr Marshall. Next Friday 9th, September, we will hold a rehearsal at the new time of 9am. There is no need for parents to attend. More information will be sent to families this week.
We are praying for these students:

Yesterday, our school hosted the Hastings School’s Zone Soccer and Netball Gala day at the Laurieton sporting fields. The day was a great success with over 300 students competing in the two sports. It was great to see so many students having fun, making new friends and displaying excellent sportsmanship and manners.
A huge thankyou to our staff and leadership that gave assistance on the day. It is fantastic that our school culture embraces all sport and the many advantages it provides for our students.
Another big thank you to the P & F and canteen for the delicious baked good and hundreds of lunches and treats supplied on the day. I know from the students of all schools feedback that they really enjoyed them.
Winners for the day were St Agnes’ Port Macquarie in the soccer and St Peter’s Port Macquarie in the netball.
To support our learning about personal safety in class, the Bravehearts Ditto Show will be presented to all children in Kindergarten to Year 2 next week.
This incursion by trained presenters is an important piece of the personal safety puzzle that parents, family, teachers and community members contribute to, to keep children safe.
We are on the countdown with only two more weeks to go before ‘show week’ for our very exciting upcoming whole school Production ‘Never Ever Land’.

Students will be ready to go home or be picked up at the conclusion of this performance at around 7 pm (exact time to be confirmed).
It is expected that all students are available and participate in the rehearsals and performances during this week as it is a valuable learning experience as part of the curriculum, and the students and staff have been working very hard for many weeks to get prepared and ready.
If you have any concerns about your child being available at school at any time during this week, please get in contact with your child’s Class Teacher as soon as possible.

Tickets have been on sale for the last two weeks to each of the shows with a limit of four per family to ensure each family has an opportunity to see the show of their choice. We are now able to offer UNLIMITED tickets for purchase until sold out. Please invite your friends, extended family and anyone who would like to be thoroughly entertained by the talents of our students! We also rely on our ticket sales to cover the costs of the show and to make a full audience for our students to perform to. So please promote our show! Tickets can be purchased through Flexischools or by contacting the school office. Tickets are $10 each.
If you have any comments, questions, concerns or encouragement, please feel free to contact our school office or Jess Koenig.
