Welcome to the 2024 School Year!
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome many of our students back this week for their Mathematics Assessment Interview (MAI) and our Kindergarten Best Start interviews.
As outlined in our previous 'Welcome Back to School Year' letter, we would like to remind you that students in Years 1-6 will return to school on Monday, February 5, 2024. We will kick off the day with a special welcoming assembly in the School Hall, and I would like to extend an invitation to all parents and carers to join us for this celebratory event. It's a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and support our students as they embark on a new academic year.
The following day, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, we will have the joy of greeting our new Kindergarten cohort. After the morning assembly, I warmly invite all Kindergarten parents and carers to join us for a morning tea in the School Hall. This will be a lovely occasion to meet other families, chat with our staff, and share in the excitement as our youngest learners take their first steps in their educational journey.
We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for every member of our school community. Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Let's make 2024 a year filled with growth, learning, and community spirit. We can't wait to see all the wonderful achievements our students will accomplish with your continued support and partnership.
MAI Assessments
Thank you to the teaching staff and parents for all your support with the students participating in their Maths Assessment Interviews. These one-on-one assessment sessions were invaluable for teachers to understand and gather data on what students deeply comprehend regarding mathematical concepts, including counting, place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. They also provided an opportunity for teachers to check in with students on how they are feeling as they prepare to start the new school year and to enjoy hearing numerous holiday stories. Feedback on how to support your child's mathematical development, based on the assessments, will be sent home in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, teachers will utilise this information to tailor their Mathematics programs.
Supporting Your Child's Well-Being
We understand that the holiday period can bring significant changes that may impact your child's well-being. As we welcome students back to school, we want to ensure they receive the care and support they need during this transition. If your family has experienced any events, such as a loss, that could affect your child's emotional or mental health, please do not hesitate to inform their teacher or contact the school office. Additionally, you can access our well-being referral form at any time on the school website. We are here to help. Wellbeing Referral
School Uniform Policy ( Including hairstyles)
As we embark on a new school year, we wish to kindly remind everyone about the significance of complying with our school's uniform policy. We expect all students to wear completely black shoes every day, except on sports day. These shoes should not display any other colours. Many families opt for an all-black sports shoe that can be worn daily. Furthermore, we request that students keep their hair in natural colours and avoid extreme hairstyles, such as mullets or shaved patterns.
Should you have any inquiries or require assistance concerning the uniform policy, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher or the school office for guidance. For a comprehensive overview of the uniform requirements, you are welcome to visit our website at: School Uniform. We appreciate your cooperation in upholding a respectful and well-ordered school atmosphere.
Parent Information Night
At the beginning of each new school year, we like to connect with and keep parents as informed as possible about your child’s classroom routines, learning, and events. Each class will have a Parent Information Night on Wednesday 21st, February (week 4). Each Class Teacher will present a session on topics such as their classroom routines, expectations, curriculum content, and communication in each of the classrooms. We will provide details around class session times next week. We hope to see as many families as possible in attendance to start the year off in great partnership in learning.
In the week following this Parent Information Night, we will be offering ‘Parent to Teacher’ meetings for any parents who would like to talk to your child’s Class Teacher about your child and how they learn best, and any well-being or other matters that they will need to know. Parents with students who have additional needs and Indigenous students will be invited to a meeting with relevant staff around this time as well. We will send out booking information about this soon.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Road Safety is a Back to School Essential
As children return to school, it is essential to keep safety in mind. Talk with your children about safely getting to and from school.
● Keep children safe getting in and out of the car. Always use the door closest to the kerb.
● Keep children safe by walking distraction-free. Expect your child to take off their
headphones while walking.
● Keep children safe getting on and off the bus. Wait at the bus stop and stand at least one step back from the road's edge. Always meet your child at the bus stop. Never meet them on the opposite side of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone before crossing the road.
● Keep children safe while using wheeled transport. Children must wear a helmet when riding a bike in any public place – it is the law. Foot scooter, skateboard and rollerblade riders should wear helmets and protective equipment.
Be a positive role model when you are a pedestrian, passenger and driver. Children learn from what they see, as well as what we say.

To ensure the continued safety of all our students/families and to allow the traffic flow to run smoothly during pick-up time in the car park, please remember these are our car park/gate pick-up procedures.
- Name tags and elastic bands have been sent home for families to display on car visors. (If you require multiple tags, please contact the office).
- Parents/carers using the car pick-up zone should not arrive and park in this space (or along the driveway entrance) between 2.45 and 3.00 pm.
- A maximum of three cars will be allowed past the pedestrian crossing at all times.
- Parents/carers are to stay in their vehicle when picking up their child(ren).
- Four teachers will be on car park pick-up duty - three teachers to assist with loading children from the kerb and one teacher to supervise the pedestrian crossing.
- Parents/carers who require their child(ren) to enter the car from the roadside or require greater assistance with loading are asked to delay their pick-up time until 3:10 pm.
- All cars should turn around at the far end of the car park and keep to the speed limits.
- Parents/carers who pick up their child (ren) at the front gates are required to assemble at the flagpole area at the front of the school.
- The pedestrian crossing needs to be used at all times when crossing the road. We also ask parents/carers to hold your child’s hand when walking across the pedestrian crossing.
If you require any more information about these procedures, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
