Sporting Achievements Galore!
This week had a distinct sporting theme, kicking off with our students attending the Zone Winter Sports Trials and Zone Swimming Carnivals on Monday and Tuesday. We would like to congratulate all the students who participated in these events. We were thrilled to hear that many students have been selected to represent the Hastings Zone at the next level - a testament to their hard work and talent.
A special thank you to Mr. Michael Marshall for his excellent coordination of these events. His commitment to our sports programs is invaluable, and we are grateful for his leadership in the Sports Coordinator role at our school. Additionally, we would like to acknowledge all the staff members who supported our students during these events. Your encouragement and guidance play a crucial role in our students' success and the positive experiences they take away from such competitions.A Visit from the Newcastle Knights
On Wednesday, we had members of the Newcastle Knights National Rugby League Club visit the school. They engaged with our students, imparting valuable lessons on sportsmanship and teamwork and sharing personal anecdotes from their lives as professional athletes. This was an incredible opportunity for our students to learn from some of the best in the field.
Parent Information Night Success and Parent to Teacher Interviews
We were delighted to see a fantastic turnout at our Parent Information Night. We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff for organising and hosting these informative sessions and to all parents and carers for their unwavering support. We would really like to hear your feedback about this event so that we can review and improve our processes in the future. Please click on this LINK by Monday 12 pm.
A special shout-out to Ms. Amy McCormick, Mrs. Holly-Walker Thompson, and Ms. Crystal Laws for coordinating the BBQ and providing babysitting services in the Library.
Please remember to book the Parent to Teacher meetings with your child’s Class Teacher for next week. There are still available timeslots so please go into Compass ‘conferences’ to book in. We look forward to meeting with you in partnership for your child’s success at school this year.
MAI Parent Feedback letters
As a result of our Maths Assessment Interviews at the beginning of the year, feedback letters to parents on their success will be distributed today for yrs 1-6. These letters contain information about what your child can do in four Mathematics learning domains of Counting, Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and Division. There are also suggestions of activities you can do at home to improve your child’s learning in each of these domains. These letters will be distributed in envelopes in your child’s bag today. If, for any reason, you do not receive yours, please get in touch with your child’s Class Teacher.
Welcome Ellie -Jean!
We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Ellie Jean Wilson, the newest member of our school family. We hope that Ellie has found her first week at St. Joseph's to be a welcoming experience, providing her with numerous opportunities to establish some new friendships.
As we look back on another action-packed week, we are reminded of the great spirit and collaborative nature of our school community. The continual involvement and support from our parent community and staff are what make our school a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow. Thank you for being a part of our school's journey. Here's to many more successful weeks ahead!
Best wishes from the leadership team
Family Pool Night 2024
We are having our first whole school social gathering of the year with the Family Pool Night. This is an excellent opportunity to reconnect with other families at the school, mingle with our school staff and meet and welcome new families to our school community.
It is important to know that parents are responsible for supervising their children during the event in addition to the pool lifeguards on duty. Pool entry will be charged for each swimmer via Flexischools at $4.70 each. The cost of the inflatable pontoon, parent spectators' fee, and a sausage sizzle (limit 1 per person) will all be covered by the School Community Group (previously P and F). Feel free to bring a picnic rug and additional food and drinks (no alcohol allowed).
The Pontoon will be available for any children who can competently swim in the deep end of the pool and can exit the pool safely without assistance. This is at the parent’s discretion, and if you decide your child can go on this, you may pick up a wristband for them on the night so this is visible to the lifeguards.
Please complete the following form for numbers and then go to Flexischools to purchase your orders by 9 am Monday 4th, March. Please be advised in the case of severe weather, this event may be cancelled, and money will be creditted. We hope to see as many families as possible come along to a fun and fantastic family night!Follow this link
On Wednesday night we had a great roll up to our School Community Group Meeting.
At this meeting, we reviewed the new structure of the SCG, reviewed the events, fundraising and friend-raising from 2023 and started to plan for 2024. We also voted on three proposals including contributing $1000 to the Family Pool Night, purchasing a high-grade Dishwasher to meet new food Safety Standards in the Canteen and committing to using up to $1000 to bring in an author/illustrator for a workshop with students in creativity as proposed by one of our parents.
Full minutes can be found below.
Over the next few weeks, we will finalise Class Parents and advertise these to the community. If you haven't let your class teacher know you are interested, please do so by next week. Fiona Hayward will be the school liaison for this sub-group and Brooke Hudson and Michelle Latham will be "knowledgeable others". Both are parents who have done the role before and can help new people.
Some Fundraising/events groups have started and these groups are looking for volunteers to support this work. We have a "lead" contact for these events that the group wanted to go ahead with, but as we know many hands make light work. If you are interested in knowing more or are ready to help, please complete this google form and we will share your details with the "lead" parent for that event. Maria Wilson will be the school liaison for this sub-group and Rachel deVries and Justine Reedy will be "knowledgeable others". Both have coordinated fundraising in the past and are happy to help new people.
We have also brainstormed some ideas for parent education and are looking for anyone interested in coordinating, running or simply put forward ideas in parent education. Alfina Jackson will be the school liaison for this sub-group. We have some committee members too, however, as we have not had parents lead this before we currently do not have any "knowledgeable others".
At this stage we are considering what we should fundraise for in 2024, so we do not have a Special Projects committee yet.
If you have ideas not mentioned on the minutes below, please add your ideas by coming to a meeting or filling in the suggestion box found on our website under "Parent&Friends".
Keep an eye on our canteen menu, we will be updating it slowly with some extra allergy advice for students who have food allergies. This week, we have just added gluten-free chicken nuggets.
Please find below the Canteen schedule for term 1.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to assist; every minute you can help makes a massive difference.
