Welcome Back to Term 2
We hope all our families had a restful and enjoyable break over the holidays. As we commence Term 2, we are excited to welcome back our students and families to what promises to be an action-packed term filled with engaging learning opportunities and fun school celebrations.
We want to extend a warm welcome to our new families that have started with us this term. In Year 2 Ceren Ayyildiz and Kai Dargan, and in Year 1, Ivy Garlick. We hope the children and their families settle in our school community well.
Staffing Update
Firstly, we would like to inform you that Mrs. Jessica Koenig will be on long service leave for the first five weeks of this term. During her absence, Mrs. Kristan Nichols will be stepping up into the Assistant Principal Learning and Teaching role. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Natalie Hurrell will be working in Kinder as the Co-Teacher from Monday to Thursday, Mrs. Michelle Harris will join us as the Stage 2 Co-Teacher and provide Year 4 Release from face-to-face teaching, and Mrs. Alfina Jackson will work an additional day on Friday as Kinder Co-Teacher during this period. We are grateful for their willingness to take on these roles and ensure a seamless learning experience for our students.
ANZAC Day March
We are incredibly proud of our school community's participation in the ANZAC Day March last Thursday. Despite it being near the end of the holiday period, we had a significant turnout of students. It was wonderful to come together as a community to honour the servicemen and women who have fought for our country and peace worldwide. A huge thank you to all staff, parents, and carers who supported this event. Special mentions go to our Year 6 School Captains, Leah Hayward and Eli Walker, who led our school in the procession and laid the wreath on behalf of our school.
ANZAC Day Commemorative Liturgy
This Wednesday, we held a school liturgy to mark ANZAC Day, graced by the presence of Mr. Pat Slee and Mr. Buster Beatty from the Laurieton RSL Branch. Their contributions, including the reading of the Ode to Remembrance, added a deep resonance to the ceremony. We commend all students for their reverence and respect during this special prayer ceremony and extend our thanks to Mrs. Aldridge, Mrs. Steep, and the Year 6 leaders for organising and leading the liturgy.
You’re Invited - Cyber Safety Talks - Tuesday 7th May
Feedback from families around Cyber Safety have included a request that the school organise Cyber Safety parent talks, specifically mentioning that they would like to attend sessions hosted by Wendy Hudson, a police liaison officer. Last term, Mrs Jackson ran a wonderful parent evening and next Tuesday 7th May, parents are welcome to join the Year 5 and 6 students for a Cyber Safety Talk in the school hall. The session will start at 9am and will last approximately one hour. Following that talk, Wendy will speak to students in Kindergarten to Year 4 about being safe in the community. Please note, this talk is just for the students.
School Community Group Meeting ( previously known as P & F Meeting)
We look forward to meeting with parents and carers at the upcoming School Community Group meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, 15 May, at 5:30 PM. During the meeting, we will discuss further planning for fundraising and friend-raising events, future parent education opportunities, special school projects, and general business topics. If any parents or carers would like to add items to the agenda, please forward them to larp@lism.catholic.edu.au.
Mother's Day Celebrations
We are grateful to have such dedicated parents who have organised a beautiful Mother's Day gift from each child at our school. Throughout this week, these parents have collaborated with each class to craft these gifts. Additionally, a dedicated team has been working hard on the final touches and wrapping, in preparation for next Friday. A huge thank you to Chaney, Hayley, Justine, Emma, and Katie for their wonderful efforts.
Our teachers and students are also enthusiastically preparing a memorable day for all the significant women in our lives, scheduled for Friday, May 10th. We warmly invite everyone to join us. The day will be filled with a liturgy, songs and poems performed by our students, and a showcase featuring the remarkable dance groups that performed today in Taree.
Taree Dance Eisteddfod
Today, we sent three dance groups to the Taree dance eisteddfod: infants' group, stage 2 group, and stage 3 group.
All the students represented our school with pride and looked fantastic on stage.
Please see below our results;
Stage 3 - Highly Commended
Stage 2 - Second Place
Infants - Third Place
All students have worked incredibly hard during lunch times and holidays, we are so proud of them all.
Thank you to Mrs Watts, Mrs Toole, Mrs Dedal, Mrs Aldridge, Mrs Koenig and Bec for preparing our students and giving them this opportunity to shine on stage.
Congratulations
We would like to congratulate Evee Smith and her family on the arrival of her new baby brother, Sebastian. We know Evee will be an amazing big sister.
As we progress through the term, we look forward to sharing details about the exciting learning experiences and celebratory events we have planned for our students.
Best wishes from the leadership team
Next Friday, our Parent Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey will open for your feedback. We would like to invite all parents to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Joseph’s Laurieton.
Our aim is to have at least 60 families complete the survey. If we reach that target we will have a reward for all the students.
Student Survey
During week 3, all students in years 4-6 will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey during regular school hours. All responses are completely anonymous. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Please see more information here.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our focus on school effectiveness, St Joseph’s Primary School Laurieton will be participating in an online survey for students – Tell Them From Me® (TTFM®). The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.
During week 3 , students from 4-6 will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey during regular school hours. Students who agree to complete the survey will be given a random username and password to access and complete the survey online. Students’ names cannot be linked to their responses which allows it to be completely anonymous. Results will show all student scores combined together – it is not possible to single out individual students in the results.
The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. The survey measures include such topics as emotional and social well-being, physical health, and behaviours and attitudes linked to student success. The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in open-ended question responses.
Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish to. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable answering any question, he/she should leave it blank and move on to the next one. Your child can stop the survey at any time.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please email larp@lism.catholic.edu.au by Friday 11th May. If you would like more information, please contact the school office on 6559 9466.
