Tell Them From Me Survey
The Tell Them From Me Survey is open for one more week. So far we have 28 family responses which is wonderful. Thank you for those who have taken the time to give the school feedback. Our target is 60 completed surveys. This many surveys means that we get an excellent indication of the thoughts of our families. All students will receive a Zooper Dooper if we can reach our target.
Students in years 4-6 also completed the student survey this week, and our staff is also completing the staff survey.

Faith Focus
This weekend Mrs Dedal, Mrs Toole and Mrs Hayward will celebrate Children's Liturgy at St John the Evangelist Kendall at 9 am. This weekend is Pentecost and we look forward to having as many students attend as possible.School Community Group Update
This week, our school community group met to discuss a number of topics. We extend our thanks and congratulations to the teams responsible for organising our Easter Raffle and Mother’s Day stall, which collectively raised over $1500. Additionally, appreciation goes to those who coordinated the Pool Night, Mother’s Day gifts, and the installation of a new dishwasher in the canteen.
We were also grateful for the school community support for the Parent Education sessions implemented in Terms 1 and 2, as well as the suggestions for future information nights focusing on puberty and neurodivergent children. The feedback regarding the Compass system was also invaluable and greatly appreciated.
We are excited to announce upcoming initiatives that promise to enrich our school community further:
Author/Illustrator Workshops
Chaney Boyle has successfully arranged for Sami Bayly, an author/ illustrator, to conduct student workshops on July 3rd.
Jam and Relish Fundraiser
In celebration of Grandparents Day, Emma Hockham and Justine Reedy are organising a special Jam and Relish fundraising pack.
New Uniform Shop Items
We are introducing a second style of unisex long pants tailored for taller/thinner individuals, and durable headphones set to our uniform shop items list.
A special thank you to our Class Parents groups for warmly welcoming new families and coordinating social events for their classes. The next School Community Group (SCG) meeting is scheduled for between August 5th and 7th. We will be trialing a poll to determine the most convenient day and time, in the hope that a few more people are able to attend. To participate in the poll, please click here. The minutes from the meeting are available for review here.
Celebrating Indigenous Culture: Our New Arts Partnership
We are excited to share wonderful news with our school community. Thanks to a generous Community Arts Grant from the Catholic Schools Office, we are embarking on a special partnership with local Indigenous artist, Nardja Davies Carter.
This collaboration, set to commence during Terms 2 and 3, involves Nardja working closely with our Indigenous Education Worker, Josh Wright, and our students—both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Together, they will create a meaningful artwork that will enrich our Acknowledgement of Country during the whole school showcase at the end of Term 3.
The primary goal of this partnership is to deepen cultural awareness and celebrate the rich heritage of Indigenous culture through the Creative Arts. This initiative offers an opportunity for our Aboriginal students and families to connect with their cultural identity and heritage. It also allows the entire school community to enhance their understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
We are grateful for the support of the Bunyah Land Council and would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Leah Toole for her efforts in securing the grant. We look forward to the positive outcomes this partnership will foster and are eager to see the wonderful contributions it will bring to our school's celebration of Indigenous culture. Please stay tuned for updates as the project progresses.
Welcome Jordy and Juel
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Jordy Jacob ( Year 5) and Juel Jacob (Year 2) who joined our school community this week. It has been wonderful to see them settling in seamlessly, engaging with their peers, and starting to make new friends. We look forward to supporting them on their educational journey at Joey’s.
Best wishes from the leadership team
Please take the time to answer the parent survey.

Wellbeing and Behaviour Expectations
In line with our 3R Behaviour expectations, being Respectful, Responsible and Resilient, for the past 2 weeks we have been focusing on our behaviour while catching the Bus.
We have been reminding our students that during line up we:
- Stand in 2 lines outside year 4
- Year 6 on silver seats
- Sit in your bus lines and wait for your bus
When on the Bus, we:
- listen to the bus driver and teachers
- use appropriate language and actions on the bus
- stay seated correctly on the bus until my stop
- report incidents to the bus driver, a teacher or a Year 6 leader
- ask for help when needed
If your child catches a bus, please discuss these expectations with them.

Our whole school will be participating in the
National Simultaneous Storytime at 12 pm Wednesday 22nd May.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
2023 was our biggest and most successful NSS to date, with over 2.18 million participants at over 59, 000 locations!
Students will complete activities related to the story in class.
Zone Cross Country
On Wednesday, our school team travelled to Kempsey to compete in the Zone Cross Country Carnival. In very competitive races, all students ran exceptionally well and represented our school with pride. Thank you to Mrs Hurrel and Bec Faddy for organising the students on the day and also to all the parents who provided travel, support and the opportunity for the students to compete. A special congratulations goes out to Dean Harthog and Gideon Fogg who made the Hastings team. They will compete in the Diocesan trial next Tuesday in Grafton. Good luck boys!
