Reconciliation
Congratulations to our Year 4 students who participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday night. A big thank you to Fr Michael for helping to teach our children that reconciliation is about making things right, it’s about saying sorry, and it’s part of growing up.
Thank you also to the many choir members who supported Year 4 on this night. It was wonderful to see such a supportive turnout.
First Holy Communion
Next Sunday 23rd June, these same students will make their First Holy Communion at 9am followed by a celebration in the Parish Hall. We are hoping we can have lots of families support this momentous occasion. Families are welcome to bring a plate to share for morning tea or just come along and we have a big cake to celebrate with.
Family Faith Night
On Saturday 29th June, we will hold a Family Faith Night. We haven’t done it in this format before. We are being joined by some special guests and are looking forward to lots of families to come along.
Plan:
5pm Mass
6pm Gather in Parish Hall - Student games, shared dinner (bring a dish), faith sharing, activities
7:30pm Conclude
Students must be accompanied by their parents or responsible adult.
A compass event will be shared soon so you can RSVP.
Incitare
Incitare is a faith retreat for Year 6. We are hosting St Joseph’s Port Macquarie next Wednesday 18th June at our school. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet new people, share their faith, and have lots of fun.
Semester 1 Reports
Teachers are well underway collating data for grades and composing report comments to provide written reports for parents and carers by the end of this term. We continually review our reporting format to ensure we are compliant and consistent with system requirements and best practice and as such our report formats have changed again this year. You will expect to see the following features on reports this year:
- Each Key Learning Area (KLA) will be graded according to the content groups or subject skill areas using descriptors of ‘Extensive, Thorough, Sound, Basic or Elementary’. There will be no overall grade for each KLA
- Engagement in Learning refers to the way your child applies themselves and shows effort and participation in each KLA. This will be described as either ‘Commendable, Consistent or Needs Support’
- Comments for English, Maths and other KLAs will be provided as ‘I can’ statements and ‘goals’ using the same language from key indicators or content directly from the syllabus. If any of these are not clearly understood, please ensure you seek clarification from your child's Classroom Teacher at a Parent Teacher interview.
- There is a section called “Learner Profile’. This describes the work habits, social skills and behaviours your child can display at school and some goals to work towards.
- There is no longer a ‘general comment’ as this should be covered in the KLA comments and Learner Profile. Any additional information about your child may be shared verbally at Parent Teacher Interviews.
We hope you will find these new style reports helpful in giving you an indication of your child’s academic performance and we trust that you will continue to communicate with your child’s Classroom Teacher for further information at Parent Teacher interviews and throughout the year.
Reports will be provided to parents and carers via your Compass Portal on Friday 28th June (week 9) and Parent Teacher Interviews will commence during week 10. We will provide more details and a booking schedule for this soon.
Best wishes from the leadership team

A cultural lesson with Josh
In Science today, Kinder were treated with a special lesson with Josh who taught them all about traditional materials that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People use to use. We also had a try at weaving baskets… a skill that was very tricky but taught Kinder a lot about resilience and perseverance!Water filters
Stage 1 explored which materials are most effective at filtering dirty water. They worked in teams to test a variety of materials.
Hockey Skills
Stage 1
Our Stage 1 Historians have been busy this term exploring the differences between past and present technologies. Learning how much telephones have changed dramatically throughout time and testing out the old string telephones.
