Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you had a lovely break. The students certainly looked refreshed and ready for a busy term of learning. There is a lot happening this term in creative arts, academics, sports and excursions. Now is a great time to check you have Compass notifications turned on so you don’t miss all the wonderful events happening around the school. You can also use the compass app to check the school calendar for future events as well as go to our school website to view all past newsletters and even sync the school calendar to yours. If we are missing something, please call Crystal, who does such a wonderful job of staying on top of our school communication.
On Monday our staff professional learning day focussed on some of our school goals and included analysing student data and planning for student success in English and Mathematics. Tuesday saw us welcome a new student Stephanie to Year 4 and on Wednesday we welcomed Courtney to Year 3. Our classes are thrilled to have more new friends to play with. Thank you to all our families who make our school such a welcoming place.
On Wednesday, Mr Marshall, Bec and Mrs Hurrell supported our Zone Athletes in Regional College. Parents commented on how supportive all the children were of each other and the teachers were very proud of their efforts. Thank you Mr Marshall for all your organisation and congratulations to the students who will represent Hastings Zone at the Diocesan Carnival.
Today we had a wonderful day with our grandparents and parishioners joining us for a beautiful morning led by our infants classes. Thank you to our infants staff for all the work that went into today. Grandparents are so important to primary schools like ours. We have so many grandparents in and out of our school, whether in the canteen or at pick up and drop off or helping out taking kids to sports or dropping off forgotten lunches. Thank you for what you do.
NAPLAN reports for Years 3 and 5 will also go home today. These reports will also be available on Compass in the reports module soon. Although not every child performs under pressure, and although this is only one snapshot of student learning, we are delighted with the results and the growth we have seen in the students. We have been focussing on Writing and Maths as part of our school goals and we have certainly been successful here. We will use our NAPLAN data along with many other data sources to further support students' growth and plan for future successes.
Next Monday, our year 3 and 4 students will join in with other schools in Port Macquarie as part of our years 3-6 discipleship continuum. We look forward to hearing about their experience.
Next Wednesday 31st July we look forward to a wonderful NAIDOC Day. Thank you to Joshua Wright who has been working tirelessly organising this day. On this day students are encouraged to wear Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flag colours or designs. Students will be involved in activities including dance, face painting, bush tucker tastings, traditional Indigenous games and more. The day will start with a liturgy at 10:30. All are welcome.
Next Friday, 2nd August, Kindergarten will celebrate 100 days of Kindergarten. We are so proud of how they have grown! We can’t wait to celebrate with them!!
Best wishes from the leadership team

Zone Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday, our school athletics squad attended the Zone Athletics Trials held at St Joseph’s Regional College. All of our students performed to the best of their ability and showed great sportsmanship and fantastic school spirit.
Congratulations go out to the following students who made the Hastings Athletics team to contest the Lismore Diocesan Trials in Coffs Harbour on Friday the 16th of August; Isabella Fede, Lachlan Wilson, Gypsy Sams, Jaidah Stevens, Yasmin Cain and Willem DeVries.
Our next School Community Group Meeting is coming up in week 3. Last term we surveyed families to find a suitable time for the meeting and the most popular time was Tuesday 6th August at 3:30pm. We will trial this time. We hope many of you can join us in the Library. Zumba is on in the hall at the same time.
Agenda items can be sent through to the office before the meeting or by going to the suggestion box on our school website: Suggestion Box
On Thursday 8th August Janita Thomson from Parent Assembly will also be running a parent workshop just after drop off on "Emotional Intelligence". This workshop has been received really well by families in other schools. Please register your interest here by opening the flyer and clicking the link.

Kindergarten Science
This term Kindergarten are starting a new Science unit all about weather! We are looking forward to discovering how heat, rain and wind can be measured and how weather affects what we wear and the activities we choose to do. This week we made binoculars to help us view the weather and record what the weather was like.
