Feast of the Assumption
This Thursday we joined the parish at mass for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. This feast commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, died, her body was "assumed" into heaven to be reunited with her soul. It was lovely to gather together to pray and celebrate this special day.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Catholic students in Years 3 (and above if they missed previous years) are invited to make their Sacrament of Confirmation later this term. Confirmation dates are set by the Chancellery and the Bishop will be celebrating Confirmation on Monday 16th September from 5:00pm in the Parish Church here in Laurieton.
We will hold an information and reflection night in a few weeks. The child making their confirmation and an adult is expected to attend on Monday 26th August. Please see compass events or call the office for further information and to register.
Todd Woodbridge Cup
Last Friday our stage 2 students participated in the Todd Woodbridge Cup. The students have been practising during lunchtimes for a few weeks and showed great improvement over the few short weeks. One of our teams won the day and will now represent our Zone at the Regional Championships. Our stage 3 teams will compete on Monday 19th. We wish them good luck!
Best wishes from the leadership team
School Photos
School photos will be back at the end of August. As soon as I have them in the office, I will send them home with students.
Book Week
St Joey’s Book Fair
Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August
***PRE PAYMENTS ONLINE FOR THE BOOK FAIR***
Students will have the opportunity to look at the books for sale in the Library, on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th August.
This is an optional book fair for students. It raises money to allow us to purchase more books for the library. Please let your child know if you would not like them to participate or discuss with them their price limit for the fair.
The online Book Fair Payment portal allows you to prepay for titles from the Book Fair that your child may have selected on their wish list. You can also pay by eftpos or cash at the Book Fair
You can download a form here. If you choose to pay online the Payment Form must be presented to the school during the Book Fair for your child to collect the books from the Book Fair.
If the books are out of stock, they can be back ordered.
To prepay please go to the following website:
https://parentpayments.scholastic.com.au/BookFairs
- Find your school's Book Fair by selecting your state and then entering the school name or suburb
(can't find your school? call: 1800 024 840)
- Enter your details and the total value of the books you wish to pre-pay for.
- Complete the Pre-payment Form, including the receipt number and amount paid. This form must be returned to the school during the Book Fair.
Any questions please email rebecca.faddy@lism.catholic.edu.au

With only a few rounds to go the competition is close and the leaders are constantly changing week from week. Lots of bonus points were given during the State of Origin period which allowed some to gain some much needed points. So fantastic to have over 80 kids from the 92 students in primary, involved in the comp. The next few rounds will determine our winners for the years! Good luck!

Creative Arts Showcase 2024
Dear Parents,
All of our classes are busy rehearsing and collating some wonderful dances and art for our upcoming Creative Arts showcase for 2024.
As we have many new families since our last whole school Production, we would like to go over a few 'need to know' points:
-Every student at our school will perform on stage with their class.
-Students may also be part of an eisteddfod dance, choir, music, band and/or drama group.
-Every student will have an artwork on display as part of our art exhibition.
-There will be three shows in week 9. Monday and Tuesday are rehearsal days. Attendance on these days is extremely important so your child will be confident to perform at the live shows.
-The first show will be on Wednesday at midday (Matinee). On Thursday, there will be two shows; students will remain at school, where they have afternoon tea and perform for the afternoon show at 3:30pm. We then feed them dinner before they perform at the evening show at 5:30pm. Students will be collected from their classrooms to go home that evening around 7pm. All students are expected to participate in all shows. Please speak to your Classroom Teacher if you have any concerns or questions.
-Parents must purchase tickets for the show or shows you would like to see. Initially, there will be a limit of a maximum of 4 tickets per family for the 5:30pm evening show as this fills up quickly, and we don't want parents to miss out if this is their only availability. One week before the show, we will open up the remaining tickets if there are any leftover. There is no allocated seating; parents line up at the door with their entry tickets 20 mins before each show.
-Tickets are available to purchase for our families and the community through either the front office or by using Flexischools as of Monday, 19th August. They are $10 each. Please inform the front office if you require special seating arrangements due to prams or wheelchair access etc.
- Costumes (with the exception of a few pieces that may be easily brought from home) will be supplied. Our ticket sales and some school funding cover the cost of these and the special stage and lighting we are hiring this year.
This is a very exciting and special time in your child’s journey of learning in primary school. The experience of performing on stage not only covers outcomes in Creative Arts but instils a sense of confidence, fun, expressive creativity and makes memories that will last a lifetime. We thank you for your support and encouragement for your child to participate in this experience.
