When it rains, it pours! And after so much rain, all the events caught up to make this week one of the busiest we have had in a long time. Thank you to the families and staff for being so flexible and supportive of the students.
On Tuesday, we had some talented athletes compete at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Coffs Harbour. Our students were terrific, with Courtney coming away as Age Champion. Thank you to Mrs Hurrell for the organisation that went into this day. Please see her report below.
We also had Bravehearts come to talk to our infants students about staying safe. Bravehearts is an Australian child protection organisation, solely dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. This fully funded program comes to us every year.
On Wednesday, our school hosted the annual Soccer and Netball Gala Day. What an incredible day after it was washed out last week and last year! A massive thank you to our parent volunteers for helping set up the morning and for the hours in the canteen. To our staff, especially Mrs Hurrell, for such a well-run day. To our students who made us extremely proud. To our volunteer student referees from CHHS, SJRC, SCAS and Mackillop. And of course to the Camden Haven Redbacks for supporting us with nets, goals, gear and the best sound system around.
On Thursday, 8 teams competed at Schuberts 7s, a tackle and tag football day. It was an enormous effort by Mrs Hurrell and Mrs Steep to get all those teams organised for the day. The students had so much fun and hopefully it has inspired a few to take up a new sport.

Today, we held our NAIDOC Celebrations. A massive thank you to Aunty Miranda and Miss Tracey for their organisation of the day, and to our students for such a beautiful liturgy. Thank you also to our volunteers who supported the activities throughout the day.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Don't Forget to Order your Father's Day Breakfast!
Orders are open on Flexischools for the Father's Day Breakfast, which will be held next Friday, 5th September from 8 am to 9 am, followed by a Father's Day liturgy.
All families receive one complimentary Bacon and Egg Roll but this MUST be ordered on Flexischools for $0. This is covered by the School Community Group using funds raised. Any additional B&E rolls can be purchased for $5 each. Families often buy one for children or grandparents who attend the breakfast and then have a game of handball or other playground games before the liturgy.

Spelling Bee
Well done to all of our students who participated in the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee these last few weeks.
We had 61 participants who spelled their way against other students in Australia. Congratulations to the following Class Champions, who gained top score in their class:
Year 3 - Benji W
Year 4 - Remi C & Zion A (equal top score)
Year 5 - Violet T
Year 6 - Tomas S
Week 6 Sport!
Our week has been filled with glorious sunshine, sport, and more sport! It’s been wonderful to see St Joey’s students representing our school with such pride.
On Tuesday, our amazing Dio Athletics Team travelled to Coffs Harbour. A huge congratulations to Gideon, Yas, Courtney, Maddy E, Madi B, Summer, EJ, Bonnie, and Edie.
A special mention to the following students who placed in the top 3 and now progress to the Polding Athletics Championship, held in Newcastle on 12th of September.
Madison Barker : High Jump
Madison Elliot : Discus
Courtney Date : 100m, 200m, Shot Put, Discus & Long Jump.
We wish Madi B, Maddy E and Courtney the best of luck at Polding.
On Wednesday, our school hosted the Hastings Zone Soccer and Netball Carnival. Our incredible soccer and netball teams played extremely well, especially considering the recent rain had disrupted our training plans. It was a fantastic day, and I am so proud of all our teams.
A big thank you to the teachers who coached and assisted on the day. Thank you to Mr Marshall, Mrs Steep, Mrs Peck, Mrs Toole, Mrs Hayward, Mrs Wilson, and the brilliant Bec. Thank you also to Stuart Bate for your assistance with setup and for coaching our girls' soccer team. A huge thank you to Emma and her wonderful team for all the work you did leading up to the day, as well as on the day.
On Thursday, our Stage 2 and 3 students travelled to Port Macquarie for the League and League Tag 7s competition. It was such a fantastic day, with many students discovering a new love for a new sport. The red, smiling faces and wonderful team spirit and sportsmanship reminded us all how special these gala days are.
