Enjoy Your Well-Deserved Holiday Break!
What a fantastic Term 3 it's been! We're so proud of all our students for their incredible hard work and commitment to their learning and extracurricular activities. Their dedication is what makes our school community’s spirit so strong.
A huge thank you also goes out to our amazing staff for their tireless efforts in making this term so engaging and successful. We couldn't do it without you.
To our wonderful parents, grandparents, and parishioners—your support is invaluable. Your generosity, whether in the canteen, at fundraising events, or helping with other school activities, makes a real difference for our students.
Now, it's time to relax and recharge! We hope you all have a safe and restful break, enjoying quality time with your families. We can't wait to hear all about the holiday adventures when we welcome everyone back on Tuesday, October 14th, ready for a great Term 4.
Music Appreciation
On Monday, a small orchestral group of musicians from the Conservatorium of Music visited our school, delighting students from K–6 with a live music performance. They showcased the flute, clarinet, keyboard, and violin, demonstrating how music tells a story. Students were highly engaged in their learning and appreciation of musical arts.
Dance Teams 2025
We are incredibly proud of our three dance teams who competed at the Port Macquarie Dance Eisteddfod on Thursday in the small schools section. Performing on the big Glasshouse stage, our students shone with confidence, energy, and teamwork. Each group delivered stunning routines that showcased their dedication and enthusiasm for dance this year. Our dancers represented our school with pride and spirit— placings were:
A massive thank you to all the teachers who helped the students with everything from routines to costumes, and gave up their time to teach the dances. We really appreciate all that you do. A special thank you to our parents who helped with all the hair and make-up on the day.
A huge congratulations to all involved—you’ve made us all so proud with your amazing performances!
Colour Run Fundraiser
We launched our SCG Colour Run Fundraiser this week and have over 50 students already registered on the online portal and over $2000 raised.
A massive thank you to the committee, headed by Rachel de Vries who have had this in the works for over a year. If you are having trouble registering your child, please reach out to your class parent. Ideally, every child would be set up for the beginning of next term.
The goal is to raise $30 000 to go towards our new school playground. Emma Hockham is working on a white T-shirt mini fundraiser with T-shirts available to purchase for the day later next term. We will also be reaching out to businesses to donate directly, with opportunities to slime teachers and other volunteers. Mr Marshall seems to be the most popular vote by the students.
$20 Boss is back
We are excited to share that Year 5 and 6 students participating in the $20 Boss project have now received their initial $20 startup capital!
This marks the beginning of the action phase, where students will put their business plans into practice by purchasing materials and starting to trade. This hands-on program is invaluable, helping students develop essential skills in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and creativity.
We encourage you to talk to your child about their business idea and how they plan to use their as a great opportunity to discuss real-world budgeting and profit. We look forward to seeing their innovative ventures!
Haircuts
Just a gentle reminder for the holidays that accordinging to our uniform policy, no extreme haircuts are permitted at school. This includes ‘mullets’, ‘partial fades’ and ‘cut designs’. Hair should be of normal and even length, long hair tied back, and of natural colour. Please refer to the following School Uniform Policy link for our guidelines.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Socktober 2025
On Friday, the 24th of October, students at St Joseph’s Primary School, Laurieton, will come to school in casual clothes and will be wearing their crazy socks. Students bring a gold coin donation to raise money for Catholic Mission, who are helping the country Zambia, this year. On the day classes will come down to the basketball court to kick penalties with soccer balls made out of rags, plastic bags and other materials. This is how kids make balls in third-world countries.
The Mission Team aims to raise $367. This money will help communities in Zambia to implement better harvesting and farming practices, to help families overcome hunger and poverty.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Many of our Primary students are talking about Roblox at the moment — it’s clearly a game they really enjoy, and with the upcoming school holidays, it’s likely they’ll be spending more time online.
While Roblox can be fun and creative, like all online games, it comes with some risks. We’ve noticed a few conversations at school that make us think it’s important we support our children in playing safely and responsibly.
In the media over the last few weeks, there has been some communication about a ROBLOX 'sexual' incident. The thought that our students may be exposed to this has made quite a few of our teachers very concerned for our students.
We’ve found this short video that gives some really practical tips for parents on how to guide children with Roblox. It covers things like privacy settings, in-game chats, cyber-bullying and how to set up healthy boundaries around gaming. It takes a really balanced approach and we think you'll find it helpful.
At the same time, the holidays are a wonderful chance for children to build the things that help them truly thrive — connection, confidence, and competency. This can come through family time, playing with friends face-to-face, learning new skills, or simply enjoying unstructured play. A healthy balance of online and offline activities will support their overall well-being.
Here are some simple spring holiday ideas that encourage the three Cs:
Connection – have a picnic in the park, invite a friend for a playdate, cook a meal together as a family.
Confidence – try a new activity like bike riding on a different track, art or craft, or taking up a new hobby.
Competency – set up a small garden project that they take charge of, learning to cook something simple on their own, or involve children in helping with real-life tasks like washing the car, planning a family outing or budgeting at the grocery shops.
Please take a few minutes to watch the video — even if your child isn’t a big Roblox player, the advice is useful for other online games too. If you prefer to read information rather than watch videos this article contains similar helpful information.
Thank you for all you do to support your child’s wellbeing both in and out of school. Working together helps us keep their online experiences positive and safe.
Warm regards,
Maria Wilson
