Hi my name is Archie and I have autism. I am not different from anybody else. I like trucks and everyone cares about me just like they care about themselves. On Wednesday, we celebrated World Autism Day. I hope you like the special prayer I made to share with all the classes on World Autism Day!
Drama Club is back this year, meeting every Friday lunchtime in the Hall. Drama is a wonderful form of the Creative and Performing Arts that offers students numerous benefits, including enhanced communication skills, social skills, self-confidence, creative thinking, as well as the potential to improve academic performance and emotional expression.
This term we have focussed on improving our stage presence and improvisation skills. Next term we will begin to prepare for the Port Macquarie Speech and Drama Eisteddfod in September. Entries into the Eisteddfod can include reciting poems, giving monologues, duo/trio and group work, readings, musical theatre and writing our own creative pieces.
More information on the Eisteddfod will go out next term to the students who attend Drama Club.
Yours in Drama,
Leah Toole
School-age kids need 9–12 hours of sleep a night. Homework, sports, and after-school activities, screen time (on computers, TVs, smartphones, and other devices), and hectic family schedules can all lead to kids not getting the sleep they need.
Kids who don’t get enough sleep may be cranky, moody, or hyper, and have friendship or behaviour problems. They may have trouble learning and paying attention in school.
How Can I Help My Child Sleep?
As kids get older, it’s still important to have a consistent bedtime routine. Help your child create a relaxing routine. It should take about 30 minutes and can include taking a shower or bath, brushing teeth, and quiet activities like reading.
Turn off all screens at least 1 hour before bedtime. Keep TVs, computers, and video game systems out of the bedroom. Turn off phones/ipads and devices or charge them overnight outside of the room.
