Jack Matthew Dedal born 26.1.25. Jack was too excited to meet mummy and daddy and arrived a bit early. Everyone is healthy and happy in the Dedal family. Enrolments for 2030 are not yet open!

All families are warmly welcome to join us for our first social gathering of the year. On Saturday 1st March our school will join the parish in a beautiful Mass at 5pm, then wander over to the school where we will have a family picnic, silent disco and lawn games.
Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic dinner and a rug. The picnic will start after the Mass. The night will conclude at around 8pm.
Shrove Tuesday
Next week, we will celebrate Shrove Tuesday with mini Pancakes. Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. It's a day of penitence, to clean the soul, and a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins. Pancakes became associated with Shrove Tuesday as they were a dish that could use up all the eggs, fats and milk in the house with just the addition of flour.
Ash Wednesday 5th March
Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent. Churches take the palms left over from Palm Sunday last year and burn them to make ashes. The ashes are then cooled and mixed with Holy Oil for Ash Wednesday.
During Lent we are asked to observe three things:
Fasting – we give up something. It could be food, but it could also be a bad habit or something that takes us away from God.
Prayer – we pray every day.
Almsgiving – we are asked to help others in need.
At St Joseph’s Laurieton, we give to Project Compassion during Lent every year. Our Mission Leaders will lead this fundraiser and are in the middle of planning.
All families are welcome to join the school and Parish for Ash Wednesday at 11am in the church.
World Day of Prayer
Next Friday, 7th March is World Day of Prayer. We celebrate with all Christian Churches in our area and will bus Year 6 and our Years 4-6 Choir to the Baptist Church where we will sing and participate in this Ecumenical Event. This Year we focus on the Cook Islands.
"I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made..."
Psalm 139:14
MAI Assessments
Today we will be sending home in bags parent feedback letters in an envelope from our MAI assessments at the start of Term. These individualised letters outline what skills your child can do in Mathematics and ways you can support their further learning at home. Please let us know if you don't receive yours so we can arrange another copy.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Dance Teams update
Thank you to all the parents who have expressed interest in their child participating in this year's school Dance Teams for years 1-6. We have a majority of students across the school wanting to participate, making the largest dance teams we have ever had! We have begun choreographing and practising with our teams this week as it will take a long time to get these large teams ready for the big stage. As we indicated in the Expression of Interest, we were hoping to enter Taree and Port Macquarie Eisteddfod as well as perform at a couple of school community events during the year. Unfortunately, we have received the date for the Taree Eistedfodd that falls on the 9th May, being the same date as our booked Stage 2 Theatre Show Excursion and also our big Mother's Day liturgy and celebration. Therefore, we won't be able to enter this competition. We look forward to showcasing our dance teams at other events and at the Port Eisteddfod later this year.
Class Parents 2025
Thank you to everyone that nominated as a class parent for 2025- if you are interested, it's not too late to become involved! We will be holding a meeting next Thursday 6th March at 3:15pm in the library if you would like to attend or alternatively, send an email to fiona.hayward@lism.catholic.
