Welcome Back
It was wonderful to see sunshine after the rainy start to the week! Thank you to all parents and carers for their incredible patience and understanding after Cyclone Alfred forced us to close the school at the end of last week. We know it wasn't easy, and we particularly appreciate your flexibility in adapting to the sudden changes. Most importantly, thank you for recognising our main priority: keeping every member of our school community safe.
This week, we focused on ensuring a smooth transition back to our regular routines, and we're committed to making the rest of the term a positive and productive experience for everyone. Our hearts go out to all our diocesan schools and communities up north that were more significantly affected by Cyclone Alfred, and we hold them close in our thoughts and prayers.
NAPLAN
Fortunately, we could proceed with our NAPLAN assessments this week for students in years 3 and 5. We started with Writing on Wednesday, followed by Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling and grammar) and finished with Mathematics on Friday. We are very proud of how our students applied themselves with a positive mindset, focus and diligence throughout each assessment. Our gratitude extends to our Class Teachers Mrs Steep and Mrs Peck who prepared our students well on what to expect and encouraged them throughout the assessments. We know our students are all ‘smart cookies’ with ‘sharp minds’ who have lots of ‘learning energy’. Well done!
Family Welcome Night
Last Saturday, the 1st of March, we celebrated our new format Family Welcome Night. It was a wonderful occasion for our community. Our parishioners praised the children at mass, especially the choir and Fr Michael was very impressed with our readers too. After Mass we all headed to school for a family picnic, games and silent disco thanks to Blue Sky Disco. By all accounts, families found this new format a very relaxing and fun way to come together as a community.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday, is typically marked by Christians as a day of feasting before the start of Lent — which comes with 40 days of fasting. Today our Year 6 Mission leaders prepared pancakes for all the classes!

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. For the next 40 days Christians around the world focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving as they prepare for Easter. Everyone is marked with an ash cross made from burning the Palm Sunday plans from last year.

Theatre Excursion
On Wednesday, we took all of our very enthusiastic Infants students up to the Glasshouse in Port Macquarie to view the stage production of Eric Carle’s stories titled “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. The children watched with much delight as the popular children’s stories came to life on stage through superb puppetry, stage effects, movement, music and acting. This experience supports our learning in Creative Arts; appreciation as well as visual arts and literacy. We look forward to taking our Stage 2 students to another theatre production in May (details to come) and we are working on organising a special theatre experience for Stage 3 soon after.
