Project Compassion - Monday, 7th April
The Mission leaders have decided on a great fundraising initiative for Project Compassion. We will have buckets and Esky’s and the class will transport 100L of water from one end of the playground to the other, simulating the kilometres that families walk to provide water for their children. In Samoa, with the help of Project Compassion, students can now attend school even during a drought. Watch this story:
On Monday, 7th April, children will wear casual clothes with enclosed shoes, they will bring a gold coin donation and participate in activities run by Year 6. Bring an extra coin for a fun lunchtime game, where Year 6 and maybe even teachers will put themselves up as a target.
Kindergarten 2026 Information Night
We look forward to our 2026 Kindergarten Information Night next Monday, 7th April. As mentioned last week, we have already received a large number of enrolment applications for 2026. To ensure your child's place, we strongly encourage existing and new families to submit their applications as soon as possible. Please note that the closing date for first-round enrolments is Monday, 28th April.
We appreciate all our families' continued support in spreading the word about this event! Please continue to help us by liking, sharing, and commenting on our Facebook posts regarding Kindergarten 2026. If you know anyone considering joining our school community in 2026, please encourage them to attend our Kindergarten Information Night.
Stations of the Cross & Easter Celebrations
Join us next Thursday in the School Hall as our Year 6 students lead us in The Stations of the Cross. This special prayer service will begin at 12 pm and offers a beautiful opportunity for devotion and reflection during this Lenten season. All families are warmly invited to attend.
Please note that there will be no whole-school assembly next week. However, we will still be celebrating our students' birthdays! Birthday certificates, including those for students with holiday birthdays, will be presented before the Easter Raffle draw on Thursday afternoon.
We look forward to sharing these special moments with you.
Brass Band and Piano EOI
For many years, we have been fortunate to offer Instrument Tuition and Band opportunities at our school for students in years 3-6 as an extracurricular activity funded by individual families. We need to add more students to our Brass Instrument Tuition and Band for this to continue being offered in Term 2 and beyond.
The tutor can also now offer piano/keyboard tuition to add to the program. If you are interested in your child taking up this opportunity, please read the further details sent in the Compass Event last week. With enough interest and participation, we hope we can continue to offer this opportunity at our school into the future. Please complete this EOI by Thursday next week if you are interested.
Best wishes from the leadership team
Term 2 Principal Leave
I would like to inform all our families that I will be on leave during Term 2 from Week 3 (12th May) until the 4th of July (the end of term). This year, I am celebrating a milestone birthday and will be going on extended leave that includes a faith-renewal experience. Although I originally intended to take leave later in the year, I recently received exciting news that I will be a grandfather again in September, so I had to move my plans forward.
While I'm away, the Leadership Team structure will be as follows:
Acting Principal: Mrs. Jessica Koenig
Assistant Principal: Mission: Mrs. Maria Wilson
Acting Assistant Principal Learning & Teaching: Mrs. Kristan Nichols
Leader of Inclusion/ Leader of Learning (Literacy & Numeracy): Mrs. Fiona Hayward
Mrs Fiona Hayward will work five days a week while I’m away and take on a dual leadership role as Leader of Inclusion and Leader of Learning ( Literacy & Numeracy). Mrs Leanne Hyland will be working four days as a co-teacher/RFF (Monday - Thursday), covering some of the teaching responsibilities of Mrs Jessica Koenig and Mrs Fiona Hayward.
I would like to thank Mrs Jess Koenig for stepping up into the Principal role and the rest of the leadership team for taking on additional responsibilities while I’m away.
Thank you for your understanding and support with these staffing changes.
Kind regards,
Rick Galvin
World Autism Day!
Hi my name is Archie and I have autism. I am not different from anybody else. I like trucks and everyone cares about me just like they care about themselves. On Wednesday, we celebrated World Autism Day. I hope you like the special prayer I made to share with all the classes on World Autism Day!
Drama Club
Drama Club is back this year, meeting every Friday lunchtime in the Hall. Drama is a wonderful form of the Creative and Performing Arts that offers students numerous benefits, including enhanced communication skills, social skills, self-confidence, creative thinking, as well as the potential to improve academic performance and emotional expression.
This term we have focussed on improving our stage presence and improvisation skills. Next term we will begin to prepare for the Port Macquarie Speech and Drama Eisteddfod in September. Entries into the Eisteddfod can include reciting poems, giving monologues, duo/trio and group work, readings, musical theatre and writing our own creative pieces.
More information on the Eisteddfod will go out next term to the students who attend Drama Club.
Yours in Drama,
Leah Toole
How Much Sleep Do School-Age Kids Need?
School-age kids need 9–12 hours of sleep a night. Homework, sports, and after-school activities, screen time (on computers, TVs, smartphones, and other devices), and hectic family schedules can all lead to kids not getting the sleep they need.
Kids who don’t get enough sleep may be cranky, moody, or hyper, and have friendship or behaviour problems. They may have trouble learning and paying attention in school.
How Can I Help My Child Sleep?
As kids get older, it’s still important to have a consistent bedtime routine. Help your child create a relaxing routine. It should take about 30 minutes and can include taking a shower or bath, brushing teeth, and quiet activities like reading.
Turn off all screens at least 1 hour before bedtime. Keep TVs, computers, and video game systems out of the bedroom. Turn off phones/ipads and devices or charge them overnight outside of the room.
It also helps to:
- Set regular bedtimes and wake-up times.
- To be sure your child gets enough sleep, decide when your child needs to get up for school in the morning and count back 9–12 hours from there.
- On weekends, try to stick to the sleep schedule as close as you can. Aim for sleep or wake-up times no more than an hour later than on weekdays.
- Keep the bedroom dark, cool, and quiet.
- Don't give your child foods or drinks with caffeine or high sugar (found in coffee, tea, sodas, and chocolate), especially in the late afternoon or evening.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of exercise during the day. This can help kids sleep better at night.
Keeping School Funding Fair – What You Need to Know
Did you know that 6 in 10 Australians don’t fully understand how school funding works? CatholicSchools NSW has launched the Keep School Funding Fair campaign to ensure families have
access to clear and accurate information.
Our schools play a vital role in providing high-quality education while keeping costs affordable
for families. A fair, means-tested funding model ensures all students are supported, no matter
their background.
Read the Catholic Schools NSW media release below to learn more, and visit
keepfundingfair.org.au to watch the explainer video and take action.
Congratulations to our swimming superstar Max, who came 2nd in the 50m freestyle in Sydney yesterday! Max will now swim in the Polding Team at the NSW PSSA State Championship next week! Good luck, Max!!
